The OGSA’s number one priority is the safety of all players.
All players must follow the guidelines listed below for equipment that is mandatory and optional for safe and fun playing.
BATTING HELMET – Players must have their own batting helmet. Chinstraps are mandatory on the batting helmet.
FACE MASKS – Face masks/guards on the helmets are mandatory for all players. Note that if you already have a helmet, you can buy the face mask/guard separately and attach it. *** CLICK HERE for more info.***
GLOVES – Each player must have their own glove.
Mite and below: 9” to 10”
Squirt: 10” to 12” (bigger girls should use 12”)
Novice and above 12” to 13”
MOUTH GUARDS – Mouth guards are mandatory for Squirt and up and must be worn at each game.
UNIFORMS – We provide all players with a complete uniform (ball cap, jersey, shorts and socks) which must be worn at all games. Players may wear any comfortable outfit at practices.
SHOES – Proper running shoes with good support/tread. Many players choose to wear baseball/softball shoes with plastic/rubber cleats for extra traction, but this is not mandatory. No metal cleats are allowed.
BATS – Coaches often have extra bats and many players will share their bat. However, if your daughter wishes to purchase her own bat, we recommend that it be an ASA approved softball / fastball bat. This will be stamped on the bat. Ideally, the length of the bat should be the length of the player’s leg. (i.e. the in-seam of a pant leg). The lighter the bat the better. The better bats have the most “drop” (i.e. the difference between the length of the bat and the weight). Look for a “drop” of 10 or more.
BALLS – The OGSA supplies all balls for practices and games. Mite and Squirt use 11” balls. Novice and up use 12” balls. Please make sure that the size of the player’s glove matches the correct size of the ball used and properly fits the player’s hand.
SLIDERS – Sliders help protect players when they are sliding into a base. They are recommended but not mandatory for Squirt and up, and come in various styles. Sliding shorts are worn under game shorts and will protect the butt and the upper thigh area. Lower leg sliders provide protection for the knee and shin.
Face masks are mandatory for all players to be eligible to play. You can purchase a helmet with a face mask, or you can add a face mask to your existing helmet. The following information explains the different types of face masks, available at many retailers and online.
