OGSA Safe Sport Announcement – Oct 11, 2022

Dear Members

Thank you all for your support during the 2022 Season. We are tremendously proud of the growth and development we’ve seen at all ages and levels this year and look forward to an even more exciting indoor development season this Fall, and of course getting back on the field in Spring 2023.

The OGSA takes the safety and well-being of all our members very seriously. As a leading amateur sports organization, we felt that it was imperative that we continue to lead the way in enabling a safe environment for all our members.

Safe Sport is a body of work committed to preventing maltreatment and abuse in sport. There have been many high-profile cases in the media, and we will be doing our part to step up our efforts and progressively and proactively create a healthy, safe, and protective environment for our coaches, players, and volunteers. To support us in this, we have engaged the services of ITP Sport & Recreation. ITP Sport is Canada’s first and only Safe Sport consulting agency, using a participant first approach specializing in prevention and education in a positive, inclusive way.

Led by Allison Forsyth, a proud local Oakville sports mom, a two-time Olympian, and a survivor of abuse in the sport system, Allison and her team will be supporting us with many aspects of our Safe Sport commitment. Allison also works closely on prevention measures with Softball Canada. Allison will be working very closely with several members of our Board to implement our Safe Sport initiatives. The OGSA is committed to engaging our members in a meaningful and consistent way throughout the process and to keeping everyone up to date on progress via regular communications.

We are also very pleased to announce that Allison will be our keynote speaker at our Annual General Meeting, being held on Nov 2, at 7PM at the Trafalgar Park Community Centre. For more information about the AGM , Allison and to register your attendance, please click here.

More to come in the following weeks including your opportunity to contribute and provide feedback. For now, we want to welcome the partnership of ITP Sport & Recreation and we look forward to doing this critically important work together on behalf of our members and broader community.

….
Sincerely,

Tyson Levac, President, on behalf of the OGSA Board of Directors
