Team Selections

This is one of the most important functions of the OGSA Executive each year.

The process is very involved, and the overall goal is to ensure that as a League we have a fair distribution of ages and skill levels across all teams in each division.

In the hope of fairness and equality in the division, there are a number of individuals involved.

The process involves reviewing each player application, and selecting teams based on criteria that includes coach availability, ages of players, years of relevant ball experience of players, skill of players where information is available, and overall equitable weighting of each team.

The hope is to have an even distribution of ages, years experience, skill, positions played such as Pitchers and Catchers, and of course a coach for each team.

The objective is that all teams within a division are as equal as possible to ensure fairness throughout the season so every team enjoys a great season.

Special requests for Coaches, family, friends, and transportation reasons are taken into for consideration but not guaranteed. Any ‘friend requests’ must be reciprocated one to one for consideration only and friend ‘links or chains’ to a group of players are strictly prohibited.

This can cause vastly unbalanced teams in being ‘stacked’ or ‘under-developed’ and this causes a huge issue for the overall performance of a division and a player’s’ enjoyment.

Requests are are looked at in terms of how they affect the overall goal of Team Selection, and not compromising the objectives of fairness and equality.
The OGSA reserves the right to rebalance teams through an evaluation of team & coach performances after a few weeks of participation to ensure that all teams are equitable.

Vulnerable Screening (Police Checks) are required for all Head Coaches and Assistant Coaches before season start.

Sponsorship

We need your help!
Help us find sponsors for all our teams, can you help us reach our goal of 20 Gold Plus and 15 Gold Sponsors? Talk to friends, colleagues, businesses you know. Even talk to your boss! Sponsors will receive great community advertising and will help support girls softball. Parents and families can also be sponsors.

What do sponsors do?
Registration fees alone do not cover the expense of uniforms, equipment, insurance and other costs. In fact, registration covers only a portion of the annual cost of running our programs. If every team is sponsored, we will have the financial resources to provide a great fun and enjoyable environment for our players.

Rain-Outs

Rain outs are communicated through TeamSnap, Twitter or email.
Check the Town of Oakville’s update page on park closures:
PARK UPDATES

In the event of bad or inclement weather, assume the game is to be played. Please go to the diamond, as the decision to cancel a game is made at the diamond, at game time by the umpire. For games that are played within Oakville, the Town of Oakville may close the diamond and notify us by 4pm on the day of the game. We will then attempt to notify all coaches by email and by TeamSnap. You can also call the Town of Oakville Sports Hotline at 905-338-4398. If you have not heard anything by 5pm, please go to the diamond. For practices, your coach will make the decision and notify you directly. Parks in the Town of Halton Hills, Milton, Burlington and Mississauga are controlled by their respective Parks & Rec departments. We will try to keep you updated on these closures as we get notified.
